3-Step Preserving Guide for Beginners
- 21-quart Waterbath Canner with a canning rack
- Ball Jars
- Saucepan
- Measuring cups
- Kitchen Knives
- Large Spoon
- Dish Rags
- Measuring Spoons
- Cutting board
- Ladle
- Non – metallic spatula
- Don’t forget all the fresh produce right out of your garden.
2. Select Your Recipe
You might try the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving or freshpreserving.com by Ball. Ball also has several different mixes and pectins available that you can try. Fill your jar with your creations, then remove air from the jar and wipe clean.
3. Preserving Your Food
Fill your jars, then simmer covered jars under at least 1″ of water. The boiling times may vary depending on recipe and altitude. Last, turn off your heat and let the jars stand in water for 5 minutes. Remove jars and set them upright on a rack or towel for 12 hours.
