Rural King Popcorn

When I was a kid, my favorite part about going to Rural King with grabbing a free bag of popcorn as I walked in.

Every Rural King store carries free coffee and freshly popped Jolly Time Popcorn. You can pick up a free bag to carry around the store, buy a large bag of popped popcorn to take home, or grab some Jolly Time kernels to pop at home.

Jolly Time popcorn comes in all kinds of flavors too, like Ultimate Cheddar, Smart Balanced Butter, KettleMania, Mallow Magic, and more!

We’ve hit all of the major holidays with our popcorn treat mixes. If you would like to see us create mixes for another holiday, celebration, or random theme, tell us in the comment section below the post. We have so many popcorn ideas we are “popping” at the seams!

Valentine’s Day Popcorn Mix

valentine's day popcorn mix

Ingredients

  • Chocolate covered pretzels (Pretzel M&Ms would be great too if you use just the red ones)
  •

Directions

Start out with about 10 cups of popped popcorn, or pick up a large bag at your local Rural King! Make sure all of the unpopped kernels are removed before moving on. You do NOT want someone biting into a kernel. Ouch!

Spread out your popped popcorn on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper or a baking mat. Slat the popcorn to your taste….then, add a bit more. The salty taste will balance the sweet.

Marshmallow Mixture: Melt the 3 tbsp of butter in a medium saucepan. Once melted, add your mini marshmallows. Stir this mixture until the marshmallows are melted. Be sure to shut the heat off as soon as your last marshmallow has melted.

Pour the liquid marshmallow over your pan of popcorn. Use a spoon to gently stir your popcorn around until most of the kernels are covered.

As soon as you’re popcorn is covered in marshmallow, add your candy, pretzels, and sprinkles. You can also add a few extra mini marshmallows at this point if you like.

Wait until the mix has had time to cool, break it apart, and enjoy your holiday-themed treat!

St. Patty’s Popcorn Mix

st. patrick's day popcorn mix

Ingredients

  • 10 cups of popped popcorn from Rural King
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate candy melts
  • 1 cup green chocolate candy melts
  • Green sprinkles
  • Green candy-coated chocolate (Green mint M&Ms work great for this!)

Directions

Put your different colored candy melts into separate small bowls or glass measuring cups. For now, microwave only the green candy melts for about 40 seconds. Stir the slightly melted candies and pop them back in the microwave for 20 seconds at a time until they are fully melted and smooth (1-2 minutes).

While your candies are melting, spread the popped popcorn onto a baking sheet covered with parchment paper or a baking mat. Once your candies have melted completely, drizzle them over your popcorn, and toss until your popcorn is mostly coated with green. Go ahead and add your green sprinkles, now.

Now, melt the white chocolate the same way as the green melts. Once it is melted and smooth, drizzle the white chocolate over the popcorn, immediately top with some green candies (M&Ms) and some extra sprinkles.

Make sure you let the St. Patty’s Popcorn cool for a few minutes before serving.

Springtime and/or Easter Popcorn Mix

Ingredients

  • 15 cups of Rural King popped popcorn
  • 16 oz candy melts (white)
  • 6 oz candy melts in pastel colors (pink, yellow, blue, and purple)
  • 1/2 cup decorative sprinkles
  • 1/2 cup colored chocolate covered candies (Easter M&Ms work well)

Directions

Place your popped popcorn in a large bowl and set it to the side for now.

Put your white candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl, and heat them in the microwave for about a minute. Then, give them a stir and put them back in for an additional minute, stirring every 15 seconds until the cand is fully melted and smooth. Pour the melted white candies over your bowl of popcorn. Gently stir until the popcorn is completely covered.

Once fully coated in melted candy, spread the popcorn on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper or a baking mat. Set your popcorn mixture aside for now so it can cool.

Next, separate your colored candy melts into separate bowls (based on colors, of course). Melt each bowl in the microwave for 1 minutes, stir, and pop them back in until they are fully melted (stir every 15 seconds). Once these are melted completely, drizzle over your popcorn mix. Top everything with colored candies and decorative sprinkles, and let it cool down before serving.
